That Time We Had A Pajama Party With Jasmine Star…

As the “Sherpa” for the Arkansas Share Group for Showiteers, I made an executive decision. That while the four of us ladies met to watch my favorite–Jasmine Star– we’d wear our pajamas.  Because who doesn’t love a good excuse to pj it out with a bunch of girls and watch a show?  So I put that in the invitation. Last line.  So no one would forget.  And followed it with lots of exclamation marks just to show the appropriate amount of enthusiasm.

Yesterday, I was a ball of excitement. After all, Jasmine Star is the reason I joined Showit in the first place. I have her to thank for my community of amazing photographers and friends and a lot of learning I’ve done along the way.  I’m a crazy fan of Jasmine’s, and they all know it, and sometimes, tease me about it in their most loving of ways.  But it’s truth. If I were 13 years old, she’d be my Justin Bieber.

So, as you can see, the night had to be special.

Crystal Goss, founder of Ness and Crystal Goss Photography graciously opened her home to some of the coolest gal’s this side of the Mason Dixon: Kim Boyd of KB Candids, Annessa Baker of ABaker’s Photography and myself.  Kim and I drove up together from our little dot on the map carrying lots of snack food in the back of the car and arrived right on time.

When Crystal opened the door, dressed so cute and Annessa stood behind her in her classy attire, I looked down at my brilliantly “Hog Red” pajama pants with razorbacks all over them and my Razorback t-shirt that’s slightly too tight with my growing stomach and smiled. “Am I seriously the only one that wore pajamas?”

What’s even worse is that not only did I wear my pjs– but I also rocked my favorite pair of cow socks at this gig.

Can anyone say “Awkward?” I now know how Elle Woods felt in Legally Blonde.

Luckily, I’d met these people before so they were slightly used to my crazy antics and made sure I didn’t feel too wierd dressed out in pigs and cows.  We piled our plates full of veggies and sandwiches and all crowded on the large sofa in Crystal’s living room to watch the show.

At “intermission”we were given a chance to “introduce” ourselves, tell a little bit about our businesses and name some of our goals for 2012. So we went around the room, feeling a lot like that first day in highschool and answered the questions and ended up learning a lot about each other, and laughing. A lot.

I’m so thankful to Jasmine who took the time out of her busy schedule to visit with all the showiteers around the world.  And most of all, for her willingness to help others, and her huge huge heart for sharing.  And a special thanks to David Jay and Andrew Barlow and the rest of the Showit crew who worked so hard to provide a special night for showiteers.  But I’m mostly thankful for the ladies I spent my time with last night, and the blessing they’ve each been.  And for the amazing company who connected us.

–Jasmine gave Arkansas Showiteer, Crystal Goss an awesome shout out last night. Therefore, we all felt famous.:)

Continuation

As my father in law read from the Bible, my eyes began to fog with moisture gathering in them as he read from Ecclesiastes 3

(NIV) There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

As my father in law spoke at the head of the table, I thought back on what all 2011 has brought. And while I normally do the same old “Favorite Photos of 2011″ post, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it this year. For what is important, isn’t the photos I’ve been saving on my desktop for a year. It isn’t how many weddings I’ve done or the book laying open on my desk calculating my taxes for the year. It isn’t the camera or the gear sitting in the bags and it isn’t the to do list on my dry erase board still waiting to be done. It isn’t even the goals I’ve crossed off this year or the new ones I’ve added.

What’s important, at the end of the year is the lessons I’ve learned, the hardships I’ve faced, the blessings from my God and the things He’s taught me.  It’s the people He’s brought into my life. The memories that play like a black and white film at the end of every year and the fluttering of my child’s beating heart on a screen. It’s waking up to my husband every morning and sharing my life with him. What’s important is the things we take from 2011, the good and the bad and continue on into 2012. Continue with the lessons in learning, the love that continues to grow, and the hardships that make each mountain harder to climb, yet so much more rewarding when we reach the top.  It’s taking the good and perfect things and remembering Whom they came from. And it’s walking forward into the new year while remembering where we’ve been.

Thank you so much to my Pop for reminding me that a new year isn’t always about starting over. And if anything is to change, let it be your relationship with God, the growing love for your family and friends. And the continuation of a beautiful life.

The above photo isn’t perfect. It wasn’t taken with my thousands of dollars worth of equipment. It isn’t edited. In fact, it was taken with an iphone. By my mother. And our faces are slightly blurred. And that arm looks severely disproportional because of the way it’s smooshed up against my husband’s arm.  But sometimes, just like life, photographs aren’t about being perfect. They’re about the memory they record. And this? This right here is happiness.

Twas the Wednesday Before Christmas…

Yesterday, we went to the doctor for an ultra sound.  We found out our little bean is a little boy! We are so excited to welcome the arrival of our son, Wilborn Kent Jones (Wil) in May! It’s amazing how just 8 weeks ago today, we were in the same ultrasound room anxiously looking for a tiny bean to appear on the screen. Now, that little bean has grown into a sweet potato size, whopping six ounce little boy whose full of energy!  We had a great ultra sound and even got to take home a dvd of it.:)And I may or may not have watched it 10 times since yesterday. I can’t help it. Every time I see him stretch and yawn on that screen, my heart melts.

Last night, we had a “Team Bow Tie/ Team Bow” party at the house to reveal to our families who they’d be expecting come May.  We piped blue icing into the center of cupcakes and had the family eat them to find out who was coming!

We also surprised them by making blue bow ties and pink bows for them to wear, representing their votes. Team Bow Tie WINS!

Now that we know our little Wil will be joining our family in a few months, it’s time to get started on the nursery! Luckily, I already had a pin board ready for either a boy or a girl, so we could get started immediately!

Thank you all so much for all your prayers!  We are so thankful to be surrounded by so many family and friends to love our son with us! Love you all!

Christmas at the Carpenters’

We were delighted when Heath and Hannah Carpenter invited us to their delightfully charming home to celebrate Christmas with some of our very dearest friends.  Our class at church has been such a blessing since we joined about this time almost two years ago, now.  And words cannot express how deeply we’ve come to care about these people.

When Heath greeted us at the door (we were those annoying first-people-to-arrive) we walked into a world of candles, fresh greenery and delectable food.

But what’s more than the beautiful decorations and the food is the fun we had, the memories made, and the time spent together with our church family. As Rusty and I rode away from the party last night, I couldn’t help but thank God for every single person in our class. For they bless us beyond measure with their friendship.

A special thanks to Hannah for opening up her home, and all the hard work she put into creating for us a great party.  <— Dear Heath: that was for you.:)Payback for all those great announcements about the parties at Rusty’s house.

Hannah is also a very talented designer: Hannah’s Hand

We pregnant ladies all took turns vegging out on the bed.:) Photos thanks to Amber Boyd.

So here we are laughing. Something was obviously hysterical.

Jared wins brother in law points for capturing this photo of my lovely sister and I. ((Shout out! We missed you Heather!))

Christmas Gatherings

Lately, we’ve been doing lots of running. I’m finishing up editing, working on taxes, while attending every Christmas program and party we can.

The other night, Michael had a musical. So as the cool aunt, I brought the camera and flashed away just like the other hundred parents in the room. But I couldn’t help but smile when I pulled out my big camera and flash and the dad next to me pointed to his wife and said, “we should get one like THAT.”

We were sitting pretty far away, but I still got some super awesome shots of my favorite six year old.
